Basemapping & GIS
Basemapping & GIS

The difference is our data.

The address is the fundamental core and universal link of a governmental GIS. Nearly 100% of governmental databases utilize an address and therefore provide the key to unlocking the enormous power and usefulness of GIS.

Field Verification

Based on our experience in mapping more than 50,000 miles of highly detailed centerline, the only way to create a solid mapping foundation is field verification of every address and every road.

Addressing

The confidence you need for 9-1-1.

  • Our point-based address collection process utilizes a fleet of third generation mobile mapping vehicles marrying three navigation technologies with a revolutionary voice recording system to map a jurisdiction with spatially accurate (sub-meter) three-dimensional results. It’s because of this process that you can expect call mapping to an exact, field verified location in 99% of all 9-1-1 calls.
  • While orthophotography can be an effective supplement to our field-verified centerline data, aerial imagery cannot effectively identify breaks in the roadway or other impassable conditions that impact emergency routing.
  • Geocoding, a mapping method that approximates addresses based on ranges assigned to a road segment, wastes time that could save lives. Relying on address ranges to locate a distress call to 9-1-1 is where geocoding often breaks down. Address ranges are not free from error, so it is not uncommon to find an anomaly, or random address, amidst an otherwise consecutively-based numbering system. Outliers, or numbers greater in value than those in the neighboring properties, also occur. Our teams find these anomalies and outliers, and spatially plot those areas in your jurisdiction where multiple address units exist. When the call for help comes in, you can respond with confidence.

Linear Reference System

Turning data into dollars.

  • The linear reference system is an alternate method for defining a location based on routes and mileposts, typically used in transportation applications.
  • Because our intelligent basemapping process entails the collection of all milepost values, your dataset has the potential to qualify for incremental roadway safety funding opportunities.
  • State departments of transportation (DOT) often struggle with maintaining an accurate roadway inventory, namely the identification of unreported roads and updating of newly created municipal roads.
  • Using our intelligent centerline dataset, one DDTI client significantly improved the accuracy of its reported traffic accidents totaling 190, as filed by the state DOT. After comparing its crash data with our newly collected centerline information, this county was able to locate more than 550 crashes along one road segment. This new crash analysis resulted in opportunities for incremental roadway safety funding for the county, which would have otherwise been unavailable.

Routing

Modeling the real world.

  • Because robust routing requires both accurate road network data and quality routing software, we developed our own routing engine to complement our comprehensive data collection process.
  • Road network attributes like one-way restrictions and speed limits– both of which are recorded during our basemapping process– can effect routing, whether you manage fire or other emergency vehicles, school busses or snow plows. Our routing engine can intelligently calculate these factors, maximizing your efficiency in finding your destination.
  • Because the face of today’s road network is ever-changing, our routing algorithm processes dynamic road closures, travel and turn restrictions and recalculates your route based on these varying factors.

Basemapping Testimonial

Putting the enhanced mapping data into our county’s PSAP has already reduced response times. We recently had a call from a mobile home park and could direct emergency response personnel right to the front door. There is no question that this information and enhanced capability will ultimately save lives. DDTI’s dataset and AccuGlobe E9-1-1 software will also help us to locate 9-1-1 calls made by cellular phones, once we finish the necessary upgrades to our system. DDTI provided us with excellent service and we could not be happier with our decision to use DDTI and AccuGlobe E9-1-1 in our county.
